Equestrian Specialty
The Equestrian Specialty is a dream come true for horse lovers. It is designed for campers who are learning to ride and still want a traditional Day Camp experience. The group splits their time at camp between days at the barn while other days are spent enjoying typical activities at camp. One group of 12 campers spends the session together under the supervision of two counselors. Friends not in the Equestrian Speciality will not be together.

During “Barn Days”, the pace slows but is still happy-busy with lots to do. The barn’s peaceful environment and the horses’ calm make this a special time. Campers learn a ton and reap the mental and emotional benefits of working with these highly intuitive creatures. Campers receive two riding lessons, a vaulting lesson, and participate in horse care each Barn Day. During riding lessons, we split the group into two smaller groups to accommodate a range of riding levels. Along with all the fun, campers learn a sense of responsibility as they work alongside our Equestrian staff to care for the horses. Each Barn Day we see stress levels drop and mindfulness increase as the group is immersed in the world of the barn. Now that’s worthy of a YEEHAA!
On the remaining days at camp, the group enjoys the rest of what camp has to offer – arts and crafts, the pool, Water World, target sports, and on and on. On Friday mornings campers choose activities on their own for the first half of the day to enjoy activities they may have missed earlier in the week or favorites they wanted to do again. This balanced approach provides lots of different experiences and fun throughout the session.
